ELP2 · Echoes Of The Past

The track “Echoes Of The Past” is dedicated to my personal experiences here and now, as I am currently setting up my new home in a foreign country. Life did not prepare me for such a turn, and I never imagined that one day I would be seeking answers to the question, “what is home?”. Now, I find myself between two spaces – the old home, which has already become unfamiliar, and the new one, which is not yet accepted as my own.

While working on this track, I aimed to convey my thoughts and emotions through sounds recorded from the magnets on the refrigerator. Using my smartphone, I recorded the clicking and clacking sounds they make when attached to the surface of the door. Highlighting the most arrhythmic and chaotic snippet of the recording, I processed it through a delay effect, which created a self-sustaining marching techno rhythm. Thus, from chaos emerged a structured rhythm that became the foundation of the composition. The simple and somber melody symbolizes the loss of the former home, while the emergence of order and rhythm from chaos represents establishing a life in the new place. It is especially important to me that the magnets from the old home play a central role in this new home, linking the past with the present.
