Until recently, I treated the Elektron Digitakt as an addition to Ableton. I liked it, but I could never really figure out how to use it in my track-writing workflow.

Whenever I disconnected it from the laptop and sat down with it on its own, I could never get past a single loop. Something always felt missing. I kept thinking in terms of producing a finished track, which meant I immediately ran into arrangement problems. I felt uncomfortable, got lost in patterns, and eventually gave up. As a result, my Digitakt spent several years collecting dust.

A preset for Operator called “passing clouds” somehow appeared in my Ableton setup. A minor chord, followed by Valhalla Delay and Blackhole Reverb, turned into a nice dub-style pattern. What I liked most were the reverb tails - they felt less like reverb and more like delay echoes, sitting separately in the center of the stereo field. When I realized I was stuck listening to the loop for many minutes and really enjoying it, I decided to turn it into a track.

In this patch I used the Sine VCO from Surge XT and NoteSeq16 to create a generative chord progression.

The resulting pad sound is spread with the Galaxy reverb and the Chronoblob delay, and then processed once again with the Plateau reverb on a send track. Noise is mixed into the sound to add roughness and small imperfections to the timbre.

The track Dungeon Keeper ends with the sounds of the street and a street musician playing the piano, accidentally captured in the recording. Symbolizing the transition from work to the tranquility of the evening, I decided to record the notes played by the musician into my modular looper. The looped piano melody creates a sense of calm. By processing it through a chain of audio effects, I achieved an ambient conclusion to the evening.

The track “Dungeon Keeper” draws on the atmosphere of a dark dungeon located right beneath the “Sveti Sveti Kiril and Metodii” church in the center of Burgas. Every workday for me begins with a visit to this underground parking lot, and I often observe how lively it gets in the morning. The noise from the car wash and the constant movement of cars inspired me to create this track. But in the evening, the parking lot becomes semi-empty, and its complex configuration with numerous walls, pillars, and corridors starts to resemble a grim level of a computer game.

The track “Infinite Thought Loop” is a sonic embodiment of my reflections on self-awareness and the inner world. For me, the question “Who am I?” has always been philosophical, personal, and complex. The simplest way to describe myself is to imagine myself as a sphere of thoughts in my head. Thoughts are always with me: bright and clear, blurred and dim, obsessive and fleeting. Some are focused on my body, others on the outside world. Snippets of sounds, memories, abstractions.

The track “Echoes Of The Past” is dedicated to my personal experiences here and now, as I am currently setting up my new home in a foreign country. Life did not prepare me for such a turn, and I never imagined that one day I would be seeking answers to the question, “what is home?”. Now, I find myself between two spaces – the old home, which has already become unfamiliar, and the new one, which is not yet accepted as my own.

About me

I am Fyodor.

For many years I have been learning how to work with electronic sound: modular synthesis, generative patches, sequences, textures, noise. Most of the time it is slow, atmospheric music, somewhere between ambient, dub, and experimental electronic sound. What matters to me is not so much building a track, but creating a sound environment you can stay inside.

The ELP2 project is a place where I collect these works. Some of them are born in modular patches, others appear as live performances or fragments that slowly grow into more complete forms. I am not chasing “perfect production” — I care more about liveliness, mood, and the feeling of an honest process.
